The Kano State Police Command has arrested two men suspected of trafficking tramadol valued at over N150 million, and has handed them over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

In a press briefing held on Wednesday, Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said the suspects identified as 28-year-old Muntari Shu’aibu and 25-year-old Imrana Rabi’u were caught with six cartons of the suspected illicit drug during a sting operation.

According to the Commissioner, the arrest followed a tip-off and was carried out as part of the command’s intelligence-led efforts to clamp down on the drug trade, which he described as a major contributor to violent crimes in the state.

“This arrest is a testament to our ongoing commitment to safeguarding the lives and well-being of Kano residents,” Bakori said, noting that the suspects and the recovered exhibits have now been transferred to the NDLEA Kano Command for further action.

He emphasized that the move aligns with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to promote synergy among security agencies in addressing crime nationwide.

The police urged residents to stay alert and report suspicious drug-related activities to the authorities through dedicated phone lines, reiterating the importance of public support in building a safer, drug-free society.
