The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has commissioned newly built accommodation blocks and a rehabilitation facility for its personnel in Kano, as part of efforts to improve staff welfare and enhance the agency’s fight against drug abuse and trafficking.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commissioned the facilities on Saturday, April 19, 2025. He described the development as a major step toward boosting the morale and operational efficiency of NDLEA officers.

“A secure and decent home front empowers the spirit, sharpens the mind, and steels the resolve of those tasked with safeguarding society from the scourge of illicit drugs,” Marwa said, stressing the significance of decent housing for officers.

Marwa noted that similar housing projects are ongoing in Enugu and Lagos, while another barracks in Abuja has been completed and is set to be commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He commended the dedication of NDLEA operatives in Kano, acknowledging their achievements in arrests, seizures, and convictions over the past year. He urged them to maintain discipline and treat the new facilities with care.

He urged officers and men of the agency to remain resolute and steadfast in the fight against illicit drug trafficking and abuse, adding that their sacrifices are critical to securing a drug-free Nigeria.

The NDLEA boss also used the occasion to decorate the Zonal Commander of Zone 5, Maryam Gambo Sani, with her new rank of Deputy Commander General of Narcotics (DCGN), while expressing appreciation to President Tinubu and other stakeholders for supporting the agency’s mission.
