Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has admitted that he initially pushed for the removal of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, saying the governor’s position had become untenable before President Bola Tinubu stepped in.

Wike made the revelation during a media chat in Abuja, where he opened up on the lingering political crisis in Rivers State. He said he was not in support of the option eventually taken by the president, a declaration of a state of emergency, but believed it was a softer landing for Fubara.

He also claimed that while he is open to peace, Governor Fubara’s aides are allegedly advising him to avoid any reconciliation.

The former Rivers governor praised President Tinubu for his role in preventing the situation from escalating, saying the president’s intervention saved Fubara’s seat.

The political tension between Wike and Fubara has continued for months, despite efforts to broker peace between both camps.
