Unknown gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday invaded the family residence of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Obeiba-Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, causing panic and destroying property.

The attackers, said to be armed with guns and cutlasses, reportedly stormed the house around 1 a.m., shattered windows, and vandalized the building before they were forced to flee.

According to the senator’s Chief Security Officer, Yakubu Ovanja, security operatives from the Okehi Police Division responded swiftly after being alerted, and no lives were lost.

Ovanja said the quick intervention of community members also helped to repel the assailants.

Speaking on the possible reason behind the attack, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan said the invaders may have assumed she was present at the residence, as her younger brother had recently visited the area alongside contractors to inspect some project sites.

The senator, who recently accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment, described the incident as an attempt to intimidate her, linking it to her public stance on the matter.

She urged authorities to thoroughly investigate the attack and called for the immediate restoration of her security detail.

The Kogi State Police Command confirmed that investigations have commenced to uncover the motive and bring the culprits to justice.
