The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has cautioned against any unauthorized visits to the state, especially by groups or prominent individuals whose presence could lead to political gatherings.

Daily News 24 reports that this was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, who noted that the governor is not expecting any special visitor and is currently preoccupied with high-level meetings on pressing state matters.

He advised anyone planning to visit the state without prior notice or approval to reconsider, stating that the government cannot guarantee the safety and security of such individuals.

The statement also emphasized that anyone intending to visit Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) within the state must first obtain written approval from the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA).

This statement comes amid the anticipated visit of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to Benue State. Governor Alia has since distanced himself and his administration from the visit.

Obi is reportedly scheduled to meet with the Tiv paramount ruler, HRM Tor Tiv, Professor James Iorzua Ayatse, in Gboko, and visit Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Abagena and Udei, Guma Local Government Area.
