A resident of Delta State, Ogoro Miffy, has accused the Delta State Police Command of converting his missing car into a police vehicle, after it was stolen nearly a decade ago.

Miffy said the vehicle went missing in 2015 while he was attending a church program. He immediately reported the incident at the Ekpan Divisional Police Station and went on to distribute flyers in a bid to trace the vehicle.

According to him, the police had asked him to provide documentation for a stolen vehicle report, which he complied with. But in 2017, two years after the report, Miffy said he was shocked to find the same car being used by officers attached to the Ekpan Division where he had initially filed the complaint.

Following the discovery, he pursued legal action. On July 19, 2018, a High Court ruled in his favour and ordered the Delta State Police Command to pay him N10 million in damages. The police, however, challenged the ruling by filing an appeal.

Reacting to the development, the command’s spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, said preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle in question was not currently in the custody of the Ekpan Police Division. He called on Miffy to reach out to him directly to assist with further investigations.
