President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has stated that no country has ever achieved genuine development under a democratic system, describing democracy as an outcome rather than a foundation for growth.

He made the statement last week during a flag-raising ceremony held at the Koulouba Palace, where he explained that Burkina Faso is currently undergoing what he called a popular and progressive revolution, not a democratic transition.

According to him, the freedoms often associated with democracy can lead to instability and disorder when everyone acts solely based on personal liberty. He maintained that true national transformation requires a revolutionary process, not a democratic model.

Traoré, who came to power in September 2022 through a military takeover that removed interim President Paul-Henri Damiba, emphasized that his administration is focused on helping citizens understand the goals of the ongoing revolution.

Since assuming office, the 37-year-old leader has made several bold policy choices, including rejecting Saudi Arabia’s offer to construct 200 mosques in Burkina Faso. Instead, he called for investment in infrastructure that would directly address the needs of the population.
