The 16th Emir of Kano, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II has backed the suspension of the annual Sallah Durbar in Kano, emphasizing the need to prioritize peace and security in the state.

Speaking during an Iftar dinner on Saturday, the Emir acknowledged the Durbar’s cultural value but maintained that ensuring the safety of residents is far more critical. He highlighted that peace is the foundation of any meaningful progress and, in line with that, supported the decision to cancel this year’s Durbar activities.

The ban was announced by the Commissioner of Police in Kano, Adamu Bakori, who cited security concerns as the reason for the decision. Emir Sanusi urged Kano residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies to ensure order throughout the Sallah festivities.

He stressed that while the Durbar is a significant tradition, it is not indispensable, as the well-being of the people remains the top priority.

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf commended the Emir’s commitment to the welfare of Kano citizens, praising his leadership and concern for public safety.

Similarly, the Chief Imam of the National Mosque, Professor Shehu Galadanci, lauded Emir Sanusi for his dedication to fostering peaceful coexistence in Kano. He reiterated that safeguarding lives and properties takes precedence over celebrations.
