The Kano State Police Command has debunked a viral social media report alleging an attack on an 18-seater bus carrying Igbo passengers in the state, describing it as false and misleading.

Daily News 24 reports that in a statement on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, urged the public to disregard the claim, emphasizing that no such incident occurred.

He warned against the spread of unverified information, misinformation, and hate speech, noting that such actions could incite panic and unrest within the community.

“The Kano State Police Command is committed to maintaining law and order in the state and ensuring the safety and security of all residents, regardless of their ethnic or religious backgrounds,” Kiyawa stated.

According to him, an investigation has been launched to trace the origin of the fake report, and those responsible will face legal consequences.

The command also appealed to residents to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activities or individuals found spreading false information.

Authorities urged the public to prioritize peace and unity, assuring that Kano remains safe for all.

This follows the killing of 16 northerners in Edo on Thursday after they were mistaken for kidnappers. The victims who are mostly Hausa hunters traveling for Sallah, were lynched by a mob in Uromi, with some bodies set on fire. Police have since arrested fourteen suspects and launched an investigation.
