Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed allegations of a secret financial arrangement with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

Atiku insisted he has never met Sanwo-Olu, making such claims baseless.

A statement issued by his media aide, Paul Ibe, described the allegations as a “blatant lie” and “contrived political hogwash” designed to serve President Bola Tinubu’s political interests. The claims suggested that Sanwo-Olu, through an aide, Aisha Achimugu, provided financial support to Atiku and Labour Party candidate Peter Obi during the election.

Atiku called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to launch a thorough investigation and disclose its findings to the public. He questioned the credibility of the allegations, arguing that it was illogical to receive funds from someone he has never met. According to him, the accusations are a political smear campaign aimed at discrediting him and potentially justifying Sanwo-Olu’s removal.

The former vice president stressed that Nigerians, including himself and Obi, deserve transparency on the matter. He urged the EFCC to conduct its investigation without political influence, ensuring accountability and fairness.
