No fewer than 25 people lost their lives in a tragic traffic accident involving a trailer early Monday morning at Dangwaro Flyover along the Kano-Zaria Expressway in Kano State.

The incident involved a trailer carrying 90 individuals along with animals, motorcycles, and bags of maize.

Abdullahi Labaran, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS1.2, Kano State Sector Command, provided details of the accident in a statement on Monday. He noted that 53 victims sustained injuries, while 12 others were rescued unhurt.

Labaran explained, “At approximately 0330 hours, a fatal accident involving a trailer (IVECO) with registration number KMC 311 ZB occurred at Dangwaro Flyover along Kano-Zaria Road. The accident involved ninety (90) people, resulting in twenty-five (25) fatalities, fifty-three (53) injured individuals, and twelve (12) people rescued unhurt. Preliminary investigations suggest that the probable cause of the crash was overspeeding and loss of control by the driver of the trailer.”

During the rescue operation, FRSC personnel, along with police and other first responders, recovered six motorcycles, 10 mobile phones, animals including rams and goats, maize, and the sum of N4,000. All victims were swiftly transported to Murtala Specialist Hospital in Kano for urgent medical attention.

In response to the incident, Sector Commander CC Ibrahim Abdullahi warned drivers and motorists against the unsafe practice of transporting animals, goods, and human beings simultaneously. He emphasized that such practices not only endanger lives but also violate traffic regulations designed to ensure road safety.

The FRSC sector commander further urged all road users to strictly adhere to traffic laws and regulations to prevent future accidents on the roads.

Trailer loses control, killing 14 in Kano traffic crash

Recall that Daily News 24 reported about a tragic road traffic crash that occurred in Imawa Town, Kura Local Government Area of  Kano State, when a truck with registration number MKA 537 XN lost control and collided with pedestrians who had just concluded Friday prayers.

Daily News 24 reported that the collision resulted in the loss of fourteen lives and left several others injured.

According to a statement by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesman in  Kano, Abdullahi Labaran the incident was reported to have happened at 1:50 PM along the Zaria-Kano highway.
