Death toll for the Kano boat accident has continued to mount as more bodies are being recovered.

Daily News24 had reported that over 40 Quaranic school students have drowned to death on Tuesday when a boat ferrying them across river Badau in Bagwai local government area capsized.

The students were said to have met their destinies on their way to Tofa for a Maulud celebration.

On Thursday, the state authorities confirmed that thirty bodies have been recovered while eleven others are still missing.

Murtala Sule Garo, the state Commissioner for Local Government affairs confirms this when the state governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar  Ganduje led other government officials to disburse relief materials to the bereaved families.

The state government in reaction to the tragedy, has banned the use of commercial boats in ferrying passengers in Bagwai-Badau River.

The action was meant to prevent further incidents.

In the interim, the state government has provided two buses for passenger shuttle between Badau and Bagwai, while three new boats would be procured for effective water transportation in the area.

More preventive measures are expected to be instituted when the investigation committee set up by the state government submitted its report for implementation.
