Former National Vice Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has expressed concern over the increasing despondency in Nigeria, calling on political leaders to unite and oppose President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Lukman highlighted the need for prominent leaders, including Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Peter Obi, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, and others, to set aside their ambitions and form a united political front to address the country’s challenges.

He questioned why these leaders should not aspire to transform Nigeria’s democracy and reverse the ‘state capture’ phenomenon.

“Political leaders in Nigeria…must answer the question as to whether they want to allow their narrow political ambitions to continue blocking the path to democratic development,” Lukman stated.

He criticized the isolation among opposition leaders and noted that many APC leaders are marginalized from Tinubu’s administration.

Lukman urged God to unite all patriotic political leaders across party lines to build democratic institutions that hold leaders accountable.

He remarked that although officials of Tinubu’s government have blamed the current hardship on the previous administration, the reality is that both are APC governments.

“The failings of the PDP in 2015 were less grievous than what it has become under APC in 2024,” Lukman concluded.
