Confirming the incident, the Kano Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), CC MB Bature, said the crash happened around 2:40 a.m. and involved a DAF Trailer (CF95) with registration number KMC 931 ZE.
Bature explained that the accident was caused by a mechanical fault after the trailer’s cab hook broke, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle, which was carrying passengers, goods, and animals, had 19 people on board at the time. Twelve died instantly, five were injured, while two escaped unhurt.
According to him, the injured were taken to Kura General Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at Nassarawa Hospital.
Describing the crash as “avoidable,” Bature warned motorists against mixing passengers, goods, and animals in the same vehicle, stressing that overloading increases the risk of fatal accidents. He also urged strict adherence to traffic regulations, cautioning that defaulters would face “stiff sanctions.”
He extended condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a quick recovery.
