The National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) says 1000 persons will benefit from its free medical outreach in Fugar, Etsako-Central Local Government Area of Edo.
The Director, Community Development Service, NYSC, Mrs Rafat Momoh, stated this during the flag-off of two-days Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) held in Fugar on Monday.
Momoh said the NYSC health programme is a quarterly free medical service, adding that the idea was to promote the wellbeing of indigent persons at the grassroots by granting them easier access to free and quality healthcare.

“The programme is initiated by NYSC to assist rural communities to meet their health needs
“The NYSC health initiative covers free medical check-up during which corps medical volunteers carry out diagnosis, treatment, medical procedures, drugs, eyeglasses, dental service, sensitisation on heath tips and other medical consumables are expected to be given to patients free of charge,” she said.
Momoh said that the scheme had been using other NYSC community development service platforms to give more frequent health-related intervention to people at the grassroots level.
She, however, urged members of the public to always go for regular medical checks to know the status of their health.
Earlier, the village head of Fugar, Chief Emmanuel Ogah, thanked the NYSC for the gesture.
“I want to thank the Edo NYSC for selecting Fugar for the free medical outreach and on behalf of the community pledged the support of the community to the success of the programme,” he said.
Ogah urged the people of the community to come out en-masse for the free medical service.
“This is a great initiative, and we appreciate them for the outreach.
“Health is wealth, people should take their health seriously, when they hear anything especially free medical programme they should avail themselves the opportunity to be tested,” he said.(NAN)
